GLANCE '22 - '23
Getting the best out
of the Lockscreen
An average person glances at their lockscreen about 25 times a day - Glance is about helping you get the most out of those micro-moments.
MY ROLE 🎩
Putting on an experimental hat
Most of my recent deliverables & inner workings of the team at Glance may be sensitive to publishing. Nevertheless, I wanted to obscurely share its and bits or some of the procesess that I personally experimented with and enjoyed the most - I hope you enjoy it too.
VISUAL REVAMP
Onboarding
Experiments
The very first project I took up was a visual revamp of the onboarding. The objective was to create something fun and delightful, and for me this was personally to understand the design teams working style, systems in place (or not) and cross collaboration.
BRAND REVAMP
Visual
Research
Enjoyed participation in the initial contributions to the visual design team on revamping the design style etc.
LEAD DESIGN
Glance for novice internet users
This initiative was the result of a partnership with Reliance's Jio Next devices meant for first time smartphone users. I was tasked with adapting the offerings of glance to a digitally differently literate NIU & to make it easy to adopt and understand.
PROCESS
A grid of outcomes
Inspired by game theory, creating a grid of possible actions on each of the screens, in probablistic order to understand the user's options, and our corresponding reactions. This also covered any states we may have missed out on.
PROTOTYPING
Streamlining UT workflow & design
Creating prototypes for UT involved a lot of streamlining of processess. This involved working with the UR team on the script & best practices, working together with them on affinity mapping after it's over. Immersing myself in the malayalam interviews, yada yada. Making sure the prototypes can be adjusted on the go if needed. Creating the prototypes involved creating it for 4 different languages - this meant creating a system of prototypes where componenets and languages were easily swappable.
HANDOVER
Deep Collaboration with Dev Team
Since the designs involved a lot of animated tutorials, we were trying to make it as light as possible. Using Lottie to handover animations and experimenting with dynamic text - in order to allow development to control the text areas.
VISUAL DESIGN
Material 13 Experiment
Material you was going to be used on --- yada yada -- using plugins and integrating with their system. Again deeply collaborating with the dev team.
PITCH DECK
Future of LIVE
Vision Deck
For internal purposes, an outcome of an exercise to internally brainstorm around the vision of LIVE of glance - interactions being the selling USP.
ICEBREAKING
Icecreaking sessions for the team
Moving to a new team, as a fun activity inside the team, to get to know everyone, quickly put this together in figma.
EXPERIENCE DESIGN
Onboarding Tooltips
Given that we are introducing a dashboard with quite unfamiliar features, we were adamant about including hover tooltips for icons & progressive visual tooltips along with conversational UX writing to help users make sense of the UI.
Follow Creator
Creating a Follow Economy
Comparative analysis, design of the questionnaire, quick usability testing prototype.
System
Quick Prototype Testing
Swimlanes and Spaces explorations - It looks simple on top, but there was a lot going on in the backdrop in the figma file. It was to make sure that things were easily replaceable and flexible to feedback.
SYSTEMS
Soundbytes Micro-Interaction
One was an experimental color system.
SYSTEMS
Soundbytes Flexible Layout
Two was the layout of the soundbytes.
HANDOFF
Creating a micro-system for LIVE covers
LIVE Landing page experiment.
“If you're too busy to build good systems, then you'll always be too busy.”
COLLABORATORS
Even though most of the work highlighted above were individual contributions, the best part about glance was the growth i received from surrounding myself with a huge design team to brainstorm ideas with. There are many folks who I'm grateful to, and not everyone will fit in this list - but I would like to highlight key collaborators.
